An editorial piece exploring the influence that The Pixies had on the rock movement.
The Pixies were a band that inspired many huge artists, such as Kurt Cobain and David Bowie. However, they never became nearly as big as Nirvana. This was because the band formed ‘before their time’. It is said that The Pixies created a new style of music, one which had never been heard before; the stop start timing sound that echoed throughout the rock movement of the 90’s. This band was the underdog, the ones who never gained the recognition they deserved, apart from their loving fans who still remain loyal to this day.
By using modern techniques such as acetate and ring binding, I wanted to represent this bands influence and bring their 90’s, grungey feel into the modern and digital world. This was to embody The Pixies being ‘ahead of their time’. I also tried to communicate the band’s abrasive music style and the problems in communication between the band and the listeners during the 90s.
